Fashion and Skincare – Can They Work Together?
More than 3.5 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the United States every single year. Skin cancer is the most common cancer of all, and yet so many people fail to take even the most basic precautions to protect their skin and help to minimize their skin cancer risk. In 2013, 76,600 people will find out that they have melanoma: the most serious skin cancer of them all. When confronted with facts like that, I think it’s fair to say that it is essential you protect and take care of your skin during the summer months (and even on sunny winter’s days too). But that doesn’t mean you don’t want to look your best. Leading to the question: Can you protect your skin and be fashionable at the same time? Fashion and skincare – can they work together?
Let Your Fashion Do The Talking!
The simple answer to the question is, yes! You can be fashionable and protect your skin at the same time. When you’re enjoying exercise outdoors on a summer’s afternoon, or simply taking a walk on the beach during the heat of the day you will want to look your best whilst protecting your skin: you can do so by keeping your skin covered in a long sleeved top, and wearing sunscreen on your hands and face: your hands are especially susceptible to aging and damage caused by the sun. However simply wearing a cotton tee isn’t enough, as you can still burn your skin through your clothes, and suffer the damaging effects of overexposure to UV rays. That’s why SanSoleil’s Sport Specific clothing line comes with UPF 50 protection as standard.
There is nothing more fashionable and attractive than healthy skin. Sunburnt or damaged skin due to excessive sun exposure is a very unfashionable look, giving you just more reasons why it’s so important to protect your skin in order to protect your style! And the side effects of developing skin cancer will not only affect your fashion credentials, they could also take your life.
Do You Know What to Look For?
One of the most important things you can do to protect your skin and look after yourself is to be aware of the signs of skin cancer, and to know what you should look out for. Check your moles regularly, and know what is normal for you. If you feel your moles are getting bigger, changing shape or color (particularly if they are becoming darker or look patchy) then you should visit your doctor immediately. Other warning signs you should be looking out for are if your moles or patches of your skin become itchy or painful, begin to bleed, or begin to look inflamed. It may be worthwhile to invest in a medical textbook or two so that you have immediate access to any relevant information about skin cancer. This could also help to influence your decision about whether you need to see your doctor or not. Remember that a good rule of thumb is that if you’re in doubt you should head to your doctor’s office immediately.
Exercise in Style!
According to health and fitness expert Jillian Michaels, one of the best things you can do to care for your skin is to exercise regularly. Regular exercise will help to improve the health and appearance of your skin, and the ‘glow’ you get whilst you exercise will make your skin shine with health and youthful vitality. SanSoleil’s UV protective exercise wear are perfect for wearing to play golf or tennis. You can also wear them to your favorite yoga class, to go for a run, or even for a brisk walk with friends and family. So not only will exercise improve the condition of your skin, wearing a fashionable protective top whilst you exercise can also help protect your skin at the same time. There really isn’t anything to lose!
